How to read province-level retention without overreacting
Small provinces can look volatile week to week. Here is a calmer way to judge whether a Thai market is actually slipping.
When you slice app retention by province, quiet markets often look dramatic. A handful of users churning in a low-volume province can swing a percentage more than the same pattern in Bangkok.
Start with a minimum cohort size before you act. For many consumer apps in Thailand, waiting until a province has enough new users in the period keeps you from chasing noise. Pair retention with a second signal such as session length or purchase rate so a single metric does not drive the whole story.
Compare each province to its own recent baseline rather than only to the national average. Chiang Mai and Phuket can behave differently from Nonthaburi for seasonal travel reasons; a drop against the national line may still be normal for that place.
If you advertise in a province, check whether the retention dip lines up with a creative or bid change. Geo audience performance tracking is most useful when location cuts sit next to the campaign decisions that created the traffic.
